The effects of parent education program types on the interaction patterns of child-mother, on the hyperactivity & delinquency, and on the parenting stresses

Abstract
This research was proceeded to test the effects of the parent education programs based on PCIT and ESBI with the dyadics of child and parents who have difficulties with each other because of the child¡¯s impulsivity and delinquencies. PCIT program was consisted of those skills for the parents dealing with hyperactive, impulsive, and conduct problematic child. ESBI program was consisted of supports in emotional difficulties of parent herself and of the behavioral modification skills that can help dealing such troubles with the child in everyday life. Subjects were 8 pairs of child-mother and were randomly put into two groups of experimental group that has one of two kinds of parent education programs as above and into another two control groups with one group having only play therapy with child and the other having no treatment. Programs were proceeded during about 20 to 24 sessions with each dyadic pairs and pre/post tests were executed before and after the whole periods of programs. The patterns of mother-child interaction in pre/post test sessions were observed and rated to be compared. And the levels of impulsivity and delinquency of the child and the levels of parenting stress index were measured by mothers to be analyzed in pre/post test sessions. The results showed mother-child interaction patterns were improved in experimental groups with parent education programs. The levels of impulsivity and delinquency of the child and the levels of parenting stress index were decreased in the experimental groups. The parent education program based on PCIT had more positive effects on those variables than ESBI program.
